Golden highlights of wheat fill the landscape in the morning light along the outskirts of Airdrie Alberta.
A grumpy looking little barn swallow takes a short break after filling up on bugs along a roadside marsh. I took this photo this past spring just outside of Airdrie where a pond in a farmer's field came up to the road. I sat back as the sun went down watching these birds that were in the thousands pick insects from the air with pinpoint accuracy.
Every August, the wheat fields around Airdrie transform from a lush green to a golden hue, signalling the beginning of autumn. This has always been my favourite time of year. The days are still long, the air is fresh in the mornings, and the afternoon sun is consistent.
