While I would agree the Rockies are a spectacular sight in the winter season, I believe the foothills are equally as beautiful and are often overlooked. When a cold snap lifts, the frost-covered forests of the foothills tend to sparkle in the sunlight and become a winter wonderland.
A few kilometers downstream of this location is Bow Lake, which is considered the headwaters of the mighty Bow River. It’s hard to believe such a tiny insignificant stream is responsible for creating a world-renowned trout fishery, and is a life source for majority of people living in Southern Alberta.
If you have ever driven through the Canadian prairies in July, you would understand this is one of those photos you can smell. When I look at this image, I get a wave of that pungent canola smell on a hot summer day. The deer certainly seem to love it too.
