Even at 25 below, open water can be found in this small lake just outside of the town of Banff, Canada. Geothermal activity warms the feeder creeks to this lake. A strong smell of sulphur wafts into the surrounding air. The popular Vermillion Lakes is a favourite destination for photographers in any season.

Driving home from visiting family, I noticed this lone sunflower plant poking through a field of canola. Each year, I am always surprised how scenic the prairies can be in July and August.
