As fall approaches in the Canadian Rockies, the cool foggy mornings often create some amazing conditions for a photographer. In this image, a thick fog had been passing through this valley for most of the morning. Every now and then, there would be a break, and the sunlight would be able to penetrate through, creating some of the most incredible moody light rays I have ever seen.
Right after taking this photo, I took one step to the right, slipped in the mud, lost my balance, jumped up and down on one leg trying to regain my balance with my arms flailing like an idiot, grabbed a branch with one hand at the last second, watched it break, and then fell completely sideways into the creek getting soaked from head to toe. Based off my daughter's hysterical laughter along with the other half dozen people who witnessed my traumatic experience, I defined the word "grace" that day.
