The importance of avalanche safety is highlighted in a photograph like this. Helicopters were buzzing around all morning and dropping bombs on the mountaintops and triggering avalanches. Each season, when the snowpack reaches unstable conditions, local municipalities are forced to close roads and mitigate risk. This is one of many measures. This image was taken in the town of Canmore. The avalanche is on the east end of Rundle Mountain.
Therapy can be viewed in many different ways. This is my therapy. Connecting with the ground below my feet takes me away from the hectic distractions that life is filled with. Getting out in nature has always instilled a reminder of how many problems in life can be solved by slowing down and simply living in the moment and not worrying about what may or may not happen next.
This is certainly one of those photos that just cannot do this place justice. Displaying the magnitude of Smith Rock in a single photo just can’t be done in my opinion. After getting home from a 10 day road trip to Oregon, I was quite eager to take a good look at the file of photos I took while on this location, and to my dismay I was actually quite dissapointed upon review. What I came to understand, it is simply one of those types of places that the sheer size just doesn’t translate into a photo well. Some places just need to be experienced to be appreciated, and I am ok with that.
