The giant flowers of cow parsnip fill the lower altitude meadows of the Rockies. With the plants reaching four to five feet tall, it can be quite intimidating to walk through. Grizzly bears love grazing this environment. I can't begin to count how many bears I have scared out of meadows similar to this, all much too close for comfort before we each noticed one another.
This image was taken near a small town called Kanarraville in Utah. To reach the canyon, you follow the creek up a small grade toward the mountain range just on the outskirts of town. Once you reach the canyon, you can follow it along for quite a distance with a series of waterfalls to climb up along the way. This is the first, and most impressive waterfall. The hike is through the creek for the entire distance, which was quite refreshing under the Utah sun.
Abundant across the prairies, coyotes are expert scavengers. The tracks in this photo display the nature of these canines and how they seek out structures to locate prey hiding in and around the silos.
