My first night in the desert, I was captivated by how dark the skies were. There seemed to be twice as many stars as I have become accustomed to. That was quite a shock considering I live on the edge of the Rocky Mountains. In this image, a lone Joshua tree stands against the vibrant Milky Way.
This is by far, the most popular location I have ever shot. Multnomah Falls is located in the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon. This is a popular destination for tourist and for good reason. It is a short drive from Portland and it is gorgeous. I took this photo at about 6:30 am and had the place to myself. After taking this picture I moved on in search of a more solitude once the flood of people started to flow in.
I took my father in law on an epic adventure to his first ever summit. We started hiking before 3 am in hopes to witness a sunrise from the top. I think the hike almost killed the old man. I was absolutely blown away with the level of perseverance this man had. He struggled through every step from the midway point to the top. His body was not accustomed to hiking in thin air on steep slopes. He pushed through all of the pain just to see the sun rising from the top of the mountain. This is the photo of Shaun on the summit of Windtower in Kananaskis Alberta.
