Cannon Beach on the Oregon coast marked the last coastal stop on my three-week holiday. My daughter and I made the best of our time and played for several hours in the sand. The beach was so flat; the sand appeared to go out for miles. When the waves came across the sand and settled, the mottled surface would reflect a near perfect reflection of everything above. On the far left side of the rocks in this image, you can faintly make out people exploring the state protected tidal pools surrounding the colossal Haystack Rock. The rocks are federally protected as a sanctuary for marine birds such as puffins and black oystercatchers.
One of my favourite parts of the winter months is how a blanket of snow can simplify a chaotic scene. With the snow in this image the distracting grasses and rocks have been removed by natures "Photoshop" tool, rendering a pleasant simple image.
A coyote patiently scans a meadow in the foothills of Southern Alberta hoping to find an evening meal.
