I found this little creek some time ago on one of my quick trips to the coast. It is a tucked away gem near the town of Whistler. On my most recent visit to the area I decided to make a stop and attempt to document it. This is my favourite shot I walked away with. This is actually what this forest looks like. The green in the costal forests are almost surreal. From a technical aspect photographing this area is extremely hard due to the complexity of the forest. I found by utilizing the creek, I was able to break the complexity of the forest and convey a natural path for the audience’s eyes to follow.
As the sun breaks through the pines, the softened shadows reveal the contours in the meadow of each cluster of grass.
As my family went to bed, I received an email alert for a high probability of aurora activity. The clouds finally cleared so I reluctantly headed out full well knowing that I was going to be a zombie at work the following day. I sure am glad I decided to go. The skies were lit up in one of the best displays I have ever seen. This is a composition I have wanted to do for quite some time so I am very happy to finally pull it off. I never would have expected to go out at midnight to find a rainbow in the sky.
