Driving home from visiting family, I noticed this lone sunflower plant poking through a field of canola. Each year, I am always surprised how scenic the prairies can be in July and August.
A recent heat wave inspired me to complete this photo that has been sitting on my hard drive for some time now. I know future Nick will disagree, but dang this looks inviting!
I have lived in Alberta for nearly fifteen years and up until this year I have never seen a wild turkey in this province. I'm not sure if its sheer coincidence or if they are making a comeback but this is the third flock I have seen in the wild this year. This flock was comprised mostly of juveniles. There must have been at least six young for every one mature bird. It is a good sign that they are indeed making a comeback in the foothills of Alberta.
